Two Senior Programmes Officers

£34,504-£36,264 plus 6% employer’s pension

Are you passionate about fighting the root causes of poverty? Are you experienced in working with social movements in the global South? We are now seeking two dedicated and talented people to take forward the central themes of War on Want’s strategic programme in two new regional posts. The two posts have been created as part of War on Want’s expansion of our International Programmes team.

Senior Programmes Officer – Latin America: You will be responsible for working in partnership with grassroots social movements fighting against the violation of human rights of people in Latin America

Senior Programmes Officer – Middle East and North Africa: You will be responsible for driving forward this new programme area. You will be responsible for working in partnership with grassroots social movements fighting against the violation of the human rights of people in Middle East and North Africa

G4S slammed for link with Israel’s abhorrent prison system

War on Want protested today at the G4S AGM against G4S's continued complicity in human rights violations across the world. In March 2016, G4S bowed to public pressure and promised to end its involvement in the Israeli prison system in two years. G4S has made similar promises in the past, under the pressure of public scrutiny, but has failed to take action on them. War on Want is calling on G4S to end immediately its connection with Israel's abhorrent prison system. Now is the time for G4S to walk the walk and uphold its legal and ethical responsibilities.

Colombia: fighting for a different kind of peace

Colombians are tired of being ignored. On 30 May, millions of Colombians will take to the streets in protest, to demand a different kind of peace. A peace with social and environmental justice at its heart. They know that if their land, livelihoods, and culture are to be protected, they must be heard. Colombia's President Santos must listen.
