Activists demand action at protest against failed G20 policies
04 September 2009

Under the banner of ‘Stop letting money rule the world", the Put People First coalition spoke out against Brown's refusal to take steps to curb bank bonuses, tax dodging and other excesses as the global economy sinks deeper into crisis. According to International Labour Organisation estimates, 239 million people worldwide will be jobless this year, up by a third since 2007.
The protest came as British chancellor Alistair Darling and other G20 finance ministers gathered in London for G20 talks. Following the protest activists from War on Want and the Put People First coalition were led on a walking tour of City institutions that contributed to the crisis.
The coalition is calling for greater investment in public services, new jobs through a green economy and an end to the free market fundamentalism. Put People First platform includes over 100 development charities, trade unions, environmental, faith and anti-poverty groups.
