#SportsDirectShame MPs must ban unfair contracts

7 June 2016 - 1:15pm

As long as the law allows it, employers like Mike Ashley will continue to exploit workers using unfair precarious contracts. Without job security and the right to join a union, workers are unable to challenge abuse, and it becomes entrenched. These precarious contracts are designed to control workers and have no defence. MPs must ban these unfair contracts.

‘Disgraceful’ Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley should get the boot

6 June 2016 - 2:00pm

It’s outrageous that while billionaire Mike Ashley talks of defending Sports Direct's ‘good name’, he reigns over an empire built on low pay, insecure zero-hour contracts and exploitation, says War on Want.

TTIP makes a mockery of democracy

2 June 2016 - 4:30pm

The EU-US deal is the biggest threat to our democracy in a generation. It is time our government hammered the final nail into TTIP’s coffin. Jeremy Corbyn is not alone in opposing TTIP. More than 3.4 million people across Europe have signed up in opposition to TTIP, joining trade unions, businesses, students, artists and politicians from across the political spectrum.

TTIP leaks expose massive threat to food and farming

1 June 2016 - 11:45am

As the TTIP leaks recently revealed, this dodgy EU-US trade deal is not a pretty sight for citizens, consumers, farmers or developing countries. We must oppose TTIP and similar deals, which will devastate our food and farming and hand even greater power to corporations to dictate policy.

G4S slammed for link with Israel’s abhorrent prison system

26 May 2016 - 3:45pm

War on Want protested today at the G4S AGM against G4S's continued complicity in human rights violations across the world. In March 2016, G4S bowed to public pressure and promised to end its involvement in the Israeli prison system in two years. G4S has made similar promises in the past, under the pressure of public scrutiny, but has failed to take action on them. War on Want is calling on G4S to end immediately its connection with Israel's abhorrent prison system.

March against Monsanto: 'time to take back control'

20 May 2016 - 3:15pm

Monsanto represents the rotten core of the globalised and commodified food system, where a handful of multinational corporations dominate the market for seeds and agrochemicals at the expense of small scale farmers and communities around the world. It's time to take back control of the food we eat.

Trade Union Act: ‘An attack on workers’ rights’

20 May 2016 - 10:15am

Trade unions have protected ordinary workers against poor conditions, low pay and unfair dismissal for generations. The Act remains a fundamental attack on workers’ rights, the ability of trade unions to organise and the right to take strike action.

TTIP a ‘clear and present danger to NHS’: whole deal must be rejected

19 May 2016 - 1:45pm

The government and European Commission’s claim that the NHS is safe is complete rubbish. The NHS has always been in TTIP and the danger this deal poses to our health, medical and dental services is clear and present.
