All of us at War on Want were deeply sorry to hear that Rodney Bickerstaffe, our long-standing President, passed away this week. Rodney's passion for tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice was matched by his humility. Rodney wasn't interested in titles. He was our President because he was determined to further War on Want's vision for a better world. "Use me while people still know who I am," he used to say.

BHP is the world’s biggest mining company. The Anglo-Australian giant's record of forced displacement of indigenous and afro-descendant communities and its catastrophic environmental damage stretches back decades. 

During October, community representatives and activists from Colombia and Brazil will be in London to challenge the company at their Annual General Meeting, demanding respect for their rights and seeking justice for the harm caused by BHP’s mining operations. Join us!

Join us for a panel discussion with Adriel Ruiz Galvan and Gilberto Lopez Vallecilla, two frontline community activists who were at the heart of the mobilisations which brought the city of Buenaventura to a standstill earlier this year. They have travelled to Europe to denounce the ongoing human rights abuses and to denounce the UK and Europe's 'Free-Trade' connnection to violence in the city.
