Today, over 500 women from Abahlali baseMjondolo have gathered to mark Women's Day. They are using the day to raise the fact that despite its democracy, South Africa remains one of the most unequal societies in the world and that poor, Black women who live in shacks are the visible reflections of this and bear the full impact of this inequality.

Israel to force-feed hunger striking prisoners

Last week, the Israeli government voted into law a new bill that allows the force-feeding of prisoners on hunger strike. 

Israeli repression of Palestinian political prisoners is a reflection of the increasingly repressive policies aimed at all Palestinians - designed to break the spirits and bodies of those who resist colonialism and Occupation. It is not enough for G4S and other complicit corporations to let lucrative contracts run their course.  Every pound of profit made by G4S is on the back of Israeli violence against Palestinians.

Impact of mining and people’s resistance in the Philippines

War on Want’s Graciela Romero participated in the four-day visit to the local communities in a ‘learning and solidarity mission’ organised by Centre for Environmental Concern and Cordillera Peoples Alliance. During the visit, community and grassroots leaders as well as a municipal Councillor commented on the environmental damages caused by the Lepanto mine in the Cordillera of the Mankayan municipality in the Philippines.
