Government's workers’ rights tsar is 'wrong' on rogue employers and exploitation

5 January 2017 - 10:15am
Press release

Prof Sir David Metcalf, founder of the Low Pay Commission, is the first director of Labour Market Enforcement, a coalition of agencies tasked with protecting employees’ rights. War on Want’s labour rights campaigner Owen Espley, said:

"David Metcalf is wrong to suggest exploitation is limited to rogue employers in the UK: with as many as 4.5 million workers in insecure work, workers increasingly live under constant fear of losing future work, meaning abuse by bosses goes unchallenged. It's time for a fairer balance of power at work, by ending precarious contracts and making it easier for all workers to benefit from the protection of a trade union."
