Appalling working conditions at JD Sports 'typical of precarious contracts'

16 December 2016 - 11:45am
Press release

Responding to Channel 4's undercover investigation at JD Sports' Kingsway distribution centre near Rochdale, War on Want’s labour rights campaigner Owen Espley, said:

"Reports of appalling working conditions at JD Sports' warehouse are shocking yet unsurprising.  As we have seen before with retailers such as Sports Direct and Asos, this kind of exploitation is typical of precarious contracts where bosses hold all the cards and workers are too afraid to speak out for fear of losing their jobs.

"When companies like JD Sports ignore workers’ rights, a race to the bottom is inevitable with women and migrant workers always the hardest hit. Only through the protection of a trade union can all workers fightback and end the exploitation of precarious contracts."
