As Israeli Apartheid deepens, UK government attacks local democracy

22 January 2016 - 1:00pm
Press release

Responding to news that Israel plans to annex 154 hectares of land in the West Bank for its illegal settlements, Ryvka Barnard, Senior Militarism and Security Campaigner for War on Want, said:

“The UK government has remained silent on these flagrant violations of international law, instead choosing to pursue even stronger ties with Apartheid Israel through trade in arms and technology.

“Where the UK government has failed to hold Israel to account for its abuse of Palestinians, it is ordinary people who have stepped up and taken action to boycott and divest from companies profiting from Israeli Occupation.

“Now the government wants to ban local councils divesting from companies complicit in Israel’s crimes. This is a cynical attack on local democracy and exposes the government’s real priorities.”
