For years, International Women’s Day has seen a mix of protest and celebration as women gather across countries and continents to mark the global struggle for women’s rights and gender equality.

Each year, the 8th of March offers an opportunity to reflect on progress, renew our commitment and energy for the struggles ahead, and celebrate the crucial leadership and strength of those sisters who are at the coal face fighting for their rights, and the rights of those around them.

Activists demand UNIQLO pay workers what they are due

On International Women's Day a coalition of global campaigners are organising a series of actions aimed at the Japanese-owned corporation UNIQLO. The immediate goal is for UNIQLO to take responsibility for 4,000 workers in their supply chain. Protests in front of UNIQLO's stores are taking place in Hong Kong today, running parallel to a letter petition targeting UNIQLO's CEO.

Threats and harassment continue against War on Want partner in Colombia

Human rights defenders and social movement leaders are being systematically harassed and killed in Colombia for defending their land and livelihoods. 

War on Want partner, The Social Corporation for Community Counselling and Training (COSPACC) has recently been subjected to a series of threats and harassment made against its leaders.

Getting away with murder: the case of Berta Caceres

One year ago today, Berta Caceres, indigenous Lenca leader and land defender, was murdered in her home in La Esperanza, Honduras. Berta was the co-founder of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organisations of Honduras (COPINH), and led the successful grassroots resistance to the Agua Zarca dam that threatened the Lenca community of Rio Blanco. Today we remember her life and join the global call for justice.

Israeli Apartheid Week events held in the UK, as Israel intensifies its colonisation

This week universities across the UK will hold educational, cultural, and campaigning events under the banner of Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW). The events, part of an annual international series, seek to raise awareness about Israel’s military occupation, apartheid policies and decades long settler-colonial project.

IAW builds support for the growing Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to end government and corporate complicity in Israel’s violations of Palestinian rights and international law.
