Trade Justice Movement response to Trade White Paper

The Trade Justice Movement has welcomed the government’s recognition in its trade white paper, released yesterday, of the need for trade policy to be “transparent and inclusive”. However it has criticised the government’s commitments so far as woefully inadequate, in particular the lack of any clear role for parliament in scrutinising trade deals.

Remembering Rodney Bickerstaffe, War on Want President: 6 April 1945 – 3 October 2017

All of us at War on Want were deeply sorry to hear that Rodney Bickerstaffe, our long-standing President, passed away this week. Rodney's passion for tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice was matched by his humility. Rodney wasn't interested in titles. He was our President because he was determined to further War on Want's vision for a better world. "Use me while people still know who I am," he used to say. 

The neocolonial violence of mining: stories of resistance against BHP

BHP is the world’s biggest mining company. The Anglo-Australian giant's record of forced displacement of indigenous and afro-descendant communities and its catastrophic environmental damage stretches back decades. 

During October, community representatives and activists from Colombia and Brazil will be in London to challenge the company at their Annual General Meeting, demanding respect for their rights and seeking justice for the harm caused by BHP’s mining operations. Join us!
