Reaction: A true workers' party would stand with migrant workers and end precarious contracts

6 October 2016 - 3:30pm
Press release

In response to recent announcements on immigration and workers rights at the Conservative Party Conference, Owen Espley labour rights campaigner said:

“A true 'workers' party' would stand with migrant workers and end precarious contracts. Conservative immigration policy has already turned bosses into border guards. Workers with the threat of deportation hanging over them are unable to demand their rights at work. If the Conservatives truly wanted to ensure immigration and rising labour standards go hand in hand, they would prevent exploitative bosses from driving a race to the bottom by ensuring all workers, regardless of their status, can claim their rights at work.

"The government’s  new review into ‘modern labour practices’ should aim to end precarious contracts not legitimise working practices better consigned to history.“
