  • EVENT DATE:   08:00-11:00
  • LOCATION:       Transport for London 197 Blackfriars road, London SE1 5NJ
  • WHAT:               Protest, March, Carnival, Celebration

Workers from across the UK are uniting for the country's first ever march against precarious labour.

The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) and supporting groups, including War on Want, are coming together on 27 September to march across central London and oppose the ongoing assault on workers' rights and the increasingly precarious nature of work.

On that day Uber will be appealing last year's employment tribunal decision which granted worker's rights to IWGB members James Farrar and Yaseen Aslam. So as Uber's army of overpaid corporate lawyers try to smooth talk their way out of respecting UK employment law, workers will be taking to the streets to tell them and all other exploitative bosses that we will not back down as they try to run riot with our rights.

Everyone is welcome and all forms of precarious workers -- including Uber drivers, Deliveroo riders, fast food workers, cleaners, receptionists, security officers -- will be present.

As much as this is a protest, it is also a carnival and a celebration of our unity as workers, so expect music, banners and dancing.

The march will go from the Employment tribunal up to the University of London, where it will join outsourced workers striking for better pay and improved conditions.

A recent report estimated that up to 10 million Britons are in insecure work. The way that "gig economy" companies like Uber and Deliveroo withold employment rights from their workers is only one part of this. More and more of us find ourselves with little to no employment protections and lower real wages: uniting behind Uber drivers is a way of strengthening the fight back!
