The men and women who scrape together a living as street and market traders in Kenya's cities have been particularly hard hit. Jobs like these, in the informal economy, are unstable at the best of times. But the past few weeks have destroyed many workers? livelihoods.

War on Want supports the Kenya National Alliance of Street Vendors and Informal Traders (Kenasvit), which fights to protect the rights of informal workers. Kenasvit has told War on Want that its members have been beaten and seven killed, and that many report that their goods and homes have been destroyed. In some parts of Kenya, street traders have had to operate under a curfew and in others they do not know when they will be allowed to work again.

War on Want visited Kenasvit in December, before the elections, and we have put together some images from the trip.
