Baby milk
War on Want was the first organisation to draw attention to the damage caused by baby milk companies with its groundbreaking 1974 publication The Baby Killer.
This was followed in 1979 by the follow up The Baby Killer Scandal, written by Andy Chetley, this 200 page book was published to coincide with a WHO/UNICEF meeting that called for an international marketing code.
As a result of the worldwide movement launched by the reports, the World Health Assembly introduced restrictions on corporate promotion of baby milk formula via the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes in 1981.
