Dispatches: 'nothing modern about the exploitation behind internet shopping'

31 January 2017 - 11:15am
Press release

Responding to revelations of worker abuse at Boohoo.com uncovered by Channel 4’s Dispatches programme, Owen Espley, labour rights campaigner at War on Want said:

"The Dispatches investigation reveals yet another case of workers on precarious contracts living under constant fear of losing future work. Precarious agency work, digital surveillance and low wages are a recipe for exploitation and abuse.

"With the ability to fire workers instantly, bosses hold all the cards: workers are seen as disposable and abuse goes unchecked. It’s time to end precarious contracts. There’s nothing modern about the exploitation behind internet shopping."
