Social Movement Learning and the Struggle for Social Justice

Location: Fulton Lecture Theatre B, University of Sussex, Brighton

War on Want, together with Centre for International Education (University of Sussex), Institute of Education (UCL), Red Pepper and the Transnational Institute, will be hosting an event on Social Movement Learning and the Struggle for Social Justice. 

War on Want's partner in South Africa, the Housing Assembly will be at the the event. Faeza Meyer, the Deputy Chairperson of the Housing Assembly, will participate alongside social movement leaders and activists from Colombia, Turkey and Nepal, to reflect on how their movements buid knowledge, develop strategy and organise in the pursuit of social justice in the conflict-affected contexts. The seminar will explore lessons learned, possibilities for South-South solidarity, and what social movements in the UK can learn from those on the front line of conflicts around the world.

Join War on Want at this free public event in Brighton. The event will begin with a keynote from Dr Aziz Choudry, McGill University, Canada, activist and author of Learning Activism: The intellectual life of social movements. Other speakers will include

Join a two day mobilisation to build the campaign for trade democracy, organised by Global Justice Now and War on Want.

Thanks to the hard work of activists on the ground, and the brazenness of the government, trade democracy is climbing up the political agenda. Over 100 MPs have signed an EDM calling for increased parliamentary scrutiny over trade deals. The SNP are calling for Scotland to have its own trade policy. People don’t want chlorinated chicken flooding UK supermarkets. Now is the time to strengthen the campaign for trade democracy.
