TTIP makes a mockery of democracy

2 June 2016 - 4:30pm
Press release

Responding to Jeremy Corbyn’s pledge to scrap the EU-US trade deal, TTIP, Mark Dearn, War on Want’s senior trade campaigner, said:

“TTIP makes a mockery of democracy. It continues to be negotiated in secret with its key documents locked away from MPs and the public. The recent leaks have shown us that our jobs, public services like the NHS, and the very foundations of our democracy are being traded away behind our backs.

“Jeremy Corbyn is not alone in opposing TTIP. More than 3.4 million people across Europe have signed up in opposition to TTIP, joining trade unions, businesses, students, artists and politicians from across the political spectrum.

“This EU-US deal is the biggest threat to our democracy in a generation. It is time our government hammered the final nail into TTIP’s coffin.”
