TTIP’s clandestine get togethers continue

Press release

The European Commission’s Cecilia Malmström is in London this week to sell toxic EU-US trade deal, TTIP - but we can’t find her.

While the European Commission’s spin agenda makes out TTIP is ‘transparent’, the deal is so hush-hush that our MPs still can’t read its key texts. And now Malmström is in London to meet her opposite number from the USA, and no one knows where.

Mark Dearn, Senior Trade Campaigner at War on Want, said:

“TTIP’s clandestine get-togethers continue. Malmström has already confirmed she doesn't 'take her mandate from the European people' and she refuses to say whether British people will get a vote on TTIP or its ‘evil twin’ Canada deal CETA. Her contempt for democracy and transparency is evident.

“TTIP will trash our democracy, cost us jobs, lock in privatisation of our public services and much else. For too long the public have been kept in the dark, as Cecilia Malmström puts the interests of big business first and sells the rest of us down the river.”
