 Autumn 2013

Across the UK

tax-the-rich-stop-the-cuts-smEvery year the UK loses tens of billions of pounds of revenue to tax dodging by big business and rich individuals while the rest of us are left paying more and relying on a welfare state facing massive spending cuts. Meanwhile the world's poorer countries lose hundreds of billions to the same abuse by multinational companies. Tax dodging doesn't just cut government revenue; it increases the wealth and power of multinational companies, taking power away from workers and voters.

This autumn, War on Want is going on a UK-wide tour to demonstrate how we as trade union members can be empowered to take on this global scandal, armed with the knowledge as to why tax matters, how much is stolen, how companies do it, what tax justice is and what ordinary people can do.

War on Want can offer:

  • An expert speaker for a talk, presentation or discussion – Murray Worthy, War on Want's tax campaigner and UK Uncut activist – or Jackie Simpkins, War on Want's trade union officer
  • A screening of Stealing Africa – a one hour film on how multinational companies dodge tax in Zambia or The Missing Billions – a half hour film about Goldman Sachs' alleged sweetheart tax deal and anti-cuts campaigning in the UK
  • Free War on Want tax campaign materials
  • Help promoting the event online
  • Support to make the most of your event

We will bring resources, materials and ideas, you just bring an enthusiasm for joining the dots between the money lost to tax dodging and the vital services that should be funded. All you need to do now is to invite us to one of your meetings or book a venue and promote the event to the members in your branch or region, or your local trades council.
