Thank you Glasto 2010!
04 July 2010
Thank you to all of you Glastonians who braved the heat, the dust along the railway track and trekked up to the Green Futures Field and signed our petition!
It was great to chat to so many of you from around the UK about our campaign to stop supermarket exploitation. Year after year we hear stories from you about how supermarkets are damaging your communities and high streets. War on Want's research shows that the exploitation of workers overseas producing goods for British supermarkets is still common practice. After years of pressure we've managed to get a supermarket watchdog, now with your help we can make sure it's got teeth!
We are demanding that the UK government create a proactive, independent watchdog that stops supermarkets from abusing workers overseas and holds companies to account for their actions, so thanks for signing up to this next step in our campaign.
Also big thanks to everyone who signed our call demanding an end to evictions and the denial of public services in South Africa. Rather than improving their lives, the 2010 World Cup has further marginalised South Africa's poor.
And if you saw War on Want staff speak on our Palestine or Love Fashion Hate Sweatshops campaigns in the Leftfield and like what you've heard, get in touch and get involved!
And last but not least, if you did see our World Cup or Cheapco supermarket films in between bands, please do let us know. We'd love to know the screen and time at which they were played.
You can order the petition in hard copy to help us collect signatures. All the reports, briefings and action cards you saw on our stall can be ordered for free. Also, as much as we would love to, we can't take our campaigns to every summer festival, so if you want us to send you some campaigns materials for your stall, do let us know and help us extend the fight for global justice!
