War on Want was joined by activists from Friends of the Earth, ActionAid, SPEAK and Traidcraft, who dressed up as supermarket bosses squeezing farmers, a practice that has led to deteriorating wages and conditions for workers in the UK and overseas.
Campaigners also handed in thousands of action cards from supporters, calling on Peter Mandelson to implement a watchdog that would regulate the relations between suppliers and supermarkets, ensuring workers are not exploited as a result of supermarket buying practices.
A supermarket ombudsman was formally recommended to the government by the Competition Commission in August. The government is due to respond in November, so please add your name to the calls for Lord Mandelson to introduce this body.
