Nyéléni European Forum for Food Sovereignty
16 – 21 August 2011 | Krems, Austria
This August will see the Austrian region of Krems play host to the first ever European forum on Food Sovereignty. War on Want is the coordinator of the UK delegation attending the forum.

The concept of Food Sovereignty was first launched by the global social movement La Via Campesina in 1996 during the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) World Food Summit which took place in Rome. Food sovereignty puts agricultural producers and consumers at the centre of the debate on food and supports all peoples in their right to produce their own local culturally appropriate food, independent of international market conditions.
At a time when the European Commission is preparing the draft laws for the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), more than 500 participants including farmers, environmental and consumer groups and local initiatives from all over Europe will formulate their response to the main challenge facing agriculture today: how to develop small-scale farming and maintain the socio-economic and cultural fabric of rural areas in Europe.
Please see below the programme for the Forum or visit the Forum website: http://nyeleni2011.net/ for more information.
