More Nixon crimes in Latin America emerge

Just six weeks after the NSA released tapes that shed light on Nixon and Kissinger’s role in the Chilean coup, yesterday the agency declassified documents linking the administration to Uruguayan death squads.

The newly released memos show how US government officials pressured the Uruguayan government to have the “Escuadrón de Muerte”, or Death Squad, threaten to kill family members of the left-wing MLN-Tupamaros movement following that group’s abduction of a US AID department official.

It’s doubtful that this new information will change the minds of Nixon and Kissinger’s ardent defenders both in the US and UK, who twist logic and distort evidence in order to absolve the US’s role in establishing decades of brutal tyranny Latin America. For neocons there's simply no such thing as a smoking gun when it comes to past war crimes committed by western powers.
