War on Want 60th anniversary AGM 2011
War on Want's special 60th anniversary Annual General Meeting is to be held on Saturday 12 February 2011 from 10am to 1pm, and we invite all members and non-members to attend. The meeting will take place at the National Union of Journalists' head office, 308 Gray's Inn Road, London WC1X 8DP (nearest tube: King's Cross). Speakers include:
- Sally Hunt, general secretary of UCU, speaking about the poverty impact of the coalition government's austerity programme in Britain
- Mansoor Mirza, trustee of War on Want, speaking about Britain's continuing involvement in Afghanistan and the impact that the NATO-led occupation is having on the Afghan people
- Labour activists from China, speaking about the continuing struggle to win workers' rights in the world's second largest economy
- John Hilary, executive director of War on Want, tracing the 60-year history of War on Want's fight for global justice
