War of Words — a blog from War on Want
Welcome to War on Want’s blog — a space to engage with radical opinion and ideas. What you read may not reflect War on Want policy (yet). But we hope it will inspire.
Now if that is not solidarity....I don't know what is!
Yesterday War on Want staff went out on the pickets and march to support public sector workers on strike in London. We received the news that our Bangladeshi partners the National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF), which organises sweatshop workers, had called a march in solidarity with striking workers in the UK.

Erotic capital, the beach under the street and other stuff I'd like to tell you about!
I've been reading bits of last weekends papers on my tube journey this week, and have been inspired, outraged and generally provoked in some sort of manner so I thought I'd share some of the bits I've been reading.
Shameless plug - buy my book Tweets from Tahrir!
This is a shameless plug for Tweets from Tahrir the book I've just edited.
No justice, no chickpeas!
Oh yes, this is the Philly BDS Flashdance (Philadelphia & Boycott Divestment Sanctions for those of you who don't speak in acronyms) coming at ya courtesy of the Electronic Intifada....

Tony Blair's memoirs - crime or dark fantasy? You decide!
Check out this Facebook campaign to subversively move Tony Blair's memoirs to the crime section in bookshops around the UK...love it!
UN adopts Bolivian resolution - Water is a Human Right!
After years of campaigning by grassroots communities worldwide against the privatisation and commodification of water, it is now official: Water is a human right!
It's great to have the UN stamp on what the majority of us knew already, as this acts as the nail in the coffin of the "efficiency argument" made by private companies and some Western governments for the last two decades. No, you can't treat water as just another commodity to be traded and left to market forces to distribute accordingly. And no, private companies can't (and won't) deliver more clean water to more poor communities when they're in it for the profit. Surprise surprise.
The UK abstained from the vote, which took place Wednesday 28 July. Shameful, but expected. After all several British companies made money out of privatising poor countries' water!
Collective citizen action now!
I love this new film by Knife Party, especially the first bit which explains how the dominant social model has re-interpreted and repackaged the anti-establishment forces which emerged in the 60s. Love the concept of the swarm. Interesting proposal for online collective organising in second bit...
