The London Mining Network, of which War on Want is a member, is hosting this public meeting which exposes the displacement of communities around the world as a result of the operations of multinational BHP Billiton.
BHP Billiton is the world's largest diversified resources company. It is heavily involved in the production of minerals for energy: coal, oil and uranium. It makes a massive contribution to worsening climate change and is creating deadly radioactive pollution for hundreds of thousands of years to come. Its operations contribute to or benefit from involuntary relocation of communities and the destruction of rural communities and livelihoods.
Main speaker: Julio Cestar Gomez, President of FECODEMIGUA the Federation of Communities Displaced by Mining in La Guajira, Colombia.
All welcome. Please allow time to get through security.

In 2004 the International Court of Justice ruled that the Separation Wall being built by Israel in the Occupied West Bank was illegal and should be dismantled. Yet the Wall continues to be built, ripping through villages, destroying farmland and cutting communities off from schools and hospitals.
In recent months Israel has been escalating repression against Palestinians campaigning against the Wall. Israeli soldiers are conducting night-raids, breaking into homes, smashing windows, firing teargas and arbitrarily arresting and imprisoning Palestinians, including children.
Join us on 2 March to find out what you can do end this latest round of repression.

Film: Landless Farmers and the Biggest March in Brazilian History
Upcoming events
22 February 2010
Attend a viewing on 25 February of a new feature-length documentary on the MST, Latin America's largest social movement and a War on Want partner organisation.

In 2005, 12,000 members of the Brazilian-based Movimento Sem Terra (MST), or Landless Workers' Movement, rose before dawn and hit the motorway, creating a red column stretching four kilometers as they bore down on the capital Brasília in their bid for land reform.
British journalist and filmmaker Gibby Zobel spent 17 days with the MST documenting the march and profiling Latin America's largest social movement. The resulting footage was made into a powerful film, Landess Farmers and the Biggest March in Brazilian History, which is being shown at Latin American House in London.
The event will feature a conversation with Alex Kawakami, a representative of the MST, and Professor Else Vieira, Queen Mary School of Languages, Linguistics and Film.
