War on Want at Tolpuddle 2011

Previous events

16 July 2011

War on Want joined thousands of trade unionists on Sunday 17 July at a festival that is growing in numbers every year. This year, there seemed to be a real sense that we are all in this together, but not in the way that George Osborne means. We mean that as the cuts start to bite, ordinary working people are expressing solidarity with ordinary working people here in the UK, but also across the developing world.

Fuel on the Fire book cover

A gripping new book by War on Want’s Campaigns and Policy Director Greg Muttitt takes us behind the scenes of the occupation of Iraq to answer one of the war’s most pressing questions: what happened to Iraq’s oil?

Drawing on hundreds of unreleased government documents and extensive interviews with senior American, British and Iraqi officials and oilmen, Fuel on the Fire reveals how the occupying powers sought to sell Iraq’s oil industry to multinational companies. But it also tells the inspiring story of how Iraqi civil society groups campaigned to thwart their plans - with surprising success.

Fuel on the Fire is vital to our understanding of the war in Iraq and its consequences.
