Israel's blacklist a desperate attempt to silence a movement for justice

7 January 2018 - 11:00pm

Israel’s blacklist targeting international charities and human rights organisations such as War on Want is part of a wider crackdown on BDS. It is a desperate attempt to silence a growing movement that is holding Israel to account for its systematic abuse of Palestinian rights and persistent violations of international law.

UK must condemn Trump's weaponisation of humanitarian aid to Palestinians

3 January 2018 - 1:00pm

Responding to the Trump administration’s comment that the U.S. may stop aid to UNRWA if Palestinians are "no longer willing to talk peace”, War on Want’s senior militarism and security campaigner, Ryvka Barnard, said:

"Over 5 million Palestinian refugees in Palestine, Jordan, and Syria depend on that aid for their basic needs, at a time when conditions for Palestinian refugees are perhaps worse than ever.

UK demands secrecy in Brexit trade talks with the US leaving Parliament in the dark

21 December 2017 - 12:45pm

There needs to be total transparency rather than 'total secrecy'

Responding to the news of the British Government demanding 'total secrecy' in its free trade talks with the US for a post-Brexit deal, War on Want Senior Trade Campaigner Mark Dearn said:

“Despite what he says, Liam Fox seems intent on repeating the mistakes of TTIP – a secretly negotiated deal in which our government sought to unpick regulations and lock the NHS into privatisation while showing disdain for any degree of public or parliamentary scrutiny.

International Migrants Day 2017

We have a global economic system that is driven by profit. We witness global corporations dispossess land from indigenous people for profit. We know that deals are made to encourage the proliferation of war through the selling of weapons. We see the destruction of the environment, and of livelihoods. These conditions are created by a global system that serves the interests of profit over people’s right to live a dignified life.

BDS is a legitimate means of protest against human rights abuse, says War on Want

14 December 2017 - 12:15pm

Campaigning for BDS is a legitimate means of protest, a fact that has been affirmed time and time again by bodies such as the European Union. Students have every right to use their democratic rights to organise and exercise freedom of expression, and should be applauded for calling out violations of international law and human rights abuse.

Argentina, host for this week’s World Trade Organisation, welcomed hundreds of government representatives to Buenos Aires to negotiate the rules of the global trade in goods, services and ecommerce. Lagging far behind other international fora, the WTO made attempts to draw attention to the impact of trade on gender equality, and correspondingly the impact women’s economic productivity can have on trade.
