When two giants merge – Monsanto-Bayer merger won’t hide corporate horrors

14 September 2016 - 3:30pm

The colossus which will arise from a merger between pharmaceutical giant Bayer and agrochemical and seeds giant Monsanto must not divert attention from the true nature of Monsanto’s food crimes.

Monsanto as a corporation has deservedly gained huge public contempt over the past few decades. The model of industrial agriculture and food production it promotes - through its seeds and agrochemical business - leads to poverty and injustice worldwide.

Sunday Times article

11 September 2016 - 9:00am

In response to the article in today's Sunday Times (11 September 2016), John Hilary, War on Want's Executive Director, said:

“The Charity Commission has confirmed, exactly as I said on the BBC earlier this year, that it is not taking forward any external complaint against War on Want.

"My decision to leave the organisation was taken many months ago, in view of the fact that I have been at War on Want for 12 successful years. Any implication there is another reason is pure fantasy.”

Tax: Public access to country-by-country reports is a 'no-brainer'

6 September 2016 - 1:30pm

Giving the public access to these country-by-country reports is a no-brainer. Sweetheart tax deals and cosy corporate relations mean the public has lost faith that the government is collecting the tax it should. The public needs this information to hold their government to account.

People power forces Sports Direct to act, but ‘don’t be fooled’ by Mike Ashley

6 September 2016 - 10:15am

Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley has bowed to public pressure and has been forced to act. But the retailer’s report into its practices is just not credible.  Don't be fooled by billionaire Ashley, this is more about saving his own skin than stopping the exploitation of workers.
