UK government’s posturing on Israel to appease Trump ‘is appalling’

17 January 2017 - 11:30am
Press release

Responding to news that EU and Palestinian diplomats have accused the UK government of trying to curry favour with Trump with its stance on Israel, War on Want’s senior militarism and security campaigner, Ryvka Barnard, said:

"The government and foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, have a history of whitewashing Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people and now the lives of Palestinians are being used as pawns in the pursuit of Donald Trump.

"Look beyond the blatant geopolitical posturing and the real issue is as stark as ever: the UK government’s unwillingness to face up to fact that its ally, Israel, is committing war crimes.

"Rather than cosying up to Trump, Boris Johnson should be urging Israel to abide by international law."
