Italian NGO complaint on McDonald's tax practices

1 October 2015 - 2:30pm
Press release

Response to Movimento Difesa dei Consumatori e da Cittadinanzattiva raising complaint about McDonald's tax practices in Italy:

Owen Espley, Senior Economic Justice Campaigner, said:

"People are rightly angered by McDonald’s shady tax affairs.  It is a scandal that while public services across Europe are being cut, this high street company continues to dodge taxes to the tune of 1 billion euros.

"For too long McDonald's has failed to pay its fair share and instead pays poverty wages, uses zero-hour contracts and dubious practices to siphon off their profits to tax havens. The European Commission must now listen to the public anger and investigate."
