Israeli government is 'making a mockery of international law'

7 February 2017 - 2:00pm
Press release

Just hours after Theresa May rolled out the red carpet for Benjamin Netanyahu at Downing Street, the Israeli prime minister announced his support for a bill in the Israeli parliament that retroactively 'legalises' some Israeli settlement outposts in the West Bank.

Ryvka Barnard, War on Want’s senior militarism and security campaigner, said:

"The Israeli government is making a mockery of international law at the devastating expense of Palestinian lives. Under international law, all of the settlements are illegal and considered a war crime.

"The Land Regularisation Bill formalises the theft of even more Palestinian land. The UK government must end its complicity in Israel’s aggression and abuse of Palestinian rights and implement an immediate two-way arms embargo on Israel until it complies with international law."
