Greece needs debt cancellation, not EU austerity, says War on Want

9 May 2016 - 4:45pm
Press release

Responding to the EU’s review of Greece's €86bn bailout, Owen Espley, Senior Economic Justice Campaigner at War on Want, said:

“Greece needs debt cancellation, not further austerity imposed by the EU and IMF. It is time the troika stopped exacting revenge for Greece’s daring to speak out against ‘Austerity Europe’ and cancelled Greece’s debt.

“Austerity has failed: the banks were bailed out and the Greek people suffered. War on Want stands in solidarity with the Greek people who are paying a terrible price for the brutal regime imposed by the institutions of the EU.”
