G20 counter-conferences look for a way forward

On 7 November, as ministers from the richest 20 countries in the world met in St Andrews to discuss the financial crisis, Put People First campaigners including War on Want staged two counter-conferences in London and St Andrews itself.

Whilst the finance ministers' official meeting focused on bailouts and patching up the failed banking system, the alternative conferences brought together inspiring speakers to look at alternative solutions to the crisis. You can listen to the panel debates here.

In London, more than 150 people came to discuss jobs, justice and climate and it was clear that there is a strong public desire to continue mobilising and pushing for real change in our economic system. In Scotland, a photo stunt on the beach attracted a lot of local and national media and several hundred local people attended the counter-conference.
