Change Trade, Not Our Climate
On 14 April 2010, the Trade Justice Movement hosted an evening event to discuss the root causes of climate change. Despite the urgency and seriousness of the problem, no one seems to have the courage to talk about the real driver of climate change - overconsumption.
The global trade system, based on free trade and an ever-increasing production and consumption of goods and services to create 'growth', is a key part of the problem. Worse still, trade rules specifically forbid many measures that we could take to slow down or stop runaway climate change.
Without changing trade we can't hope to tackle climate change.
