Many of the clothes bought in the UK come at a terrible human cost. Millions of workers around the world suffer poverty wages and exploitation producing cheap fashion for high street shops. This situation exists despite UK companies signing up to voluntary initiatives that are supposed to guarantee a living wage, decent working conditions and the right to join a trade union.

Real change can only be achieved through strong government action that protects the rights of workers supplying UK companies. Therefore it’s vital that parliamentarians call for legislation in parliament and raise the issue with government. I urge you to:

join the All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Corporate Responsibility: Business, Human Rights and the Environment
raise this issue in parliament and take part in debates around UK business and its treatment of overseas workers
write to RT Hon Kenneth Clarke MP, Secretary of State for Justice, calling on him to introduce legislation to protect overseas workers supplying UK companies
