I do NOT want to to be contacted by War on Want
Dear Foreign Secretary,
I am writing to express my grave concern about the detention without charge of Palestinian human rights activist Mohammad Othman.
On 22 September 2009 Mohammad Othman was returning from Norway when he was arrested by Israel authorities at the border terminal between Jordan and the Occupied West Bank. He has not been charged with a crime, which leads his lawyers, Palestinian human rights group Adameer, to believe that he is being held because of his advocacy work. Mohammad has dedicated the last 10 years of his life to the defence of Palestinian human rights. His village, Jayyous, in the Occupied West Bank, has lost most of its fertile agricultural land to Israel's illegal Separation Wall and Israeli settlements.
During his time in detention, Mohammad has been held mostly in solitary confinement and subjected to lengthy interrogation sessions. He has also suffered threats and sleep deprivation. He has been refused access to his lawyer since 1 November, and has been secretly moved to a new detention centre where it is feared he could now face torture.
I urge you to use the full weight of the British government’s influence to pressure the Israeli authorities for the immediate and unconditional release of Mohammad Othman. Please let me know what action you take and any response you receive.
Yours sincerely,
