Dear Richard Makepeace,
I am writing to express my grave concern about the detention without charge of Palestinian human rights activist Mohammad Othman. On 22 September Mohammad was returning from Norway when he was arrested by Israel authorities at the border terminal between Jordan and the occupied Palestinian territory.
Mohammad has not been charged with a crime, which leads us to believe that he is being held because of his human rights work. Mohammad now awaits a military hearing on Tuesday 29 September.
As a British citizen I urge you to use all the British government's influence to pressure the Israeli authorities for the immediate and unconditional release of Mohammad Othman. We believe that you share our view that the persecution and intimidation of human rights activists is unacceptable.
Please could you let me know about what action you will take and any response you receive?
