Take action now to end the impunity of private security contractors

War on Want is now launching its campaign to get statutory regulation of Private Military and Security Companies (PMSCs) back on the UK government's agenda in order to end the culture of impunity of the PMSC industry.

We need your support to highlight the flaws of voluntary codes like the ICoC (International Code of Conduct for Private Security Contractors) and shift the public debate towards tougher regulation and sanctions of PMSCs.

We have drafted a submission to the ICoC consultation process, which you can use as the basis for your submission to the ICoC. This includes a cover letter and comments on specific clauses of the Draft Charter:

Visit the ICoC website and submit comments here, raising concerns about:

  • The lack of financial sanctions for PMSCs violating the Code;
  • The need for independence from the PMSC industry when considering decisions on sanctions;
  • The need to affirm the strategic intent of the ICoC as a stepping stone towards more robust statutory regulation.

The more comments that are received echoing these concerns, the stronger the pressure will be for regulation above and beyond voluntary codes of conduct.
