Appeal

Please help us support Chinese workers today!

Please support our appeal

As the world cheered the Olympic spectacle in Beijing and the Chinese government poured billions of dollars into the city, who gave a thought to the millions of workers across China, working for next to nothing in appalling conditions?

In China over 200 million people struggle to survive on less than $1 a day. Many of the poor are migrant workers who have moved to China’s booming cities where there is no shortage of available jobs. But what is lacking is any real concern for workers’ rights, or enforcement of decent wages and working conditions.

War on Want is helping local organisations improve the lives of Chinese workers. We help them train workers on their rights, and support their efforts at building activist networks across the country.

This summer the Olympics dominated the news, but behind the scenes the Chinese government cracked down heavily on these organisations which fight for the rights of workers. This is why we are asking for your urgent support today. We must support Chinese labour organisations and workers at this critical time.

Thank you.

  • £120 could cover training for one migrant worker in labour rights
  • £60 could pay for the printed materials for a workshop on labour rights
  • £30 could run our partner’s office for an entire month
