Over 10,000 people responded to the original call to action published in the Guardian in February 1951, which was to lead to the formation of War on Want as an organisation.
The pamphlet 'Tanks into Tractors' was published in July 1951 as an interim statement of principles, and as "a plea for turning the arms race into a race for the conquest of world poverty". The final report, War on Want: A Plan for World Development, was published the following June.
