Voices from the Nakba
This year the State of Israel celebrates its 60th anniversary. At the same time, Palestinians are mourning the 60th anniversary of the Nakba, or catastrophe, which has forced thousands of Palestinians to flee the homes which their families had lived in for generations.
War on Want visited Palestine in April 2008 to talk to people whose lives have been, and continue to be, shattered by the Israeli Occupation.
They have been repeatedly displaced: first from Israel, now within West Bank, to make way for more Israeli settlements. Some refuse to leave their homes despite daily intimidation by the Israeli forces; others have no choice and are now living in makeshift shelters.
Despite this they continue their struggle for their rights to a secure livelihood. To hear some of their stories, play the videos below.
