Urgent Action – Attempted murder
of Colombian trade unionist
On 2 March 2005, trade union member and activist Rafael Cabarcas was the victim of an attempted assassination in which he and his bodyguard were injured.
This is the latest in a wave of violence against trade union and civil society activists by right-wing paramilitaries in Colombia. In the last year 94 trade unionists have been killed.
War on Want is asking supporters to email the Colombian vice-president, Francisco Santos, to investigate the attempted murder and take steps to ensure the safety of trade union members.
