Fighting Global Poverty

Trading Place

Trading Place

Renowned photographer Paul Weinberg travelled to Zambia for War on Want, talking to workers and their families, and documenting the poverty that they face every day.

The resulting exhibition, Trading Place, ran in London and Brighton. The photographs highlight the informal economy in Zambia, where workers scratch out a living without the protection of contracts, laws, social security or unions.

AZIEA, a War on Want supported organisation, represents street traders, market traders, and other workers in the informal economy. They educate their members in their rights and fight for government legislation to protect workers.

Trading Place ran from 20-30 July 2007 at the Spitz Gallery, London and then 8-13 September 2007 at the Friese Greene Gallery, Brighton.
