Take Action! Email John Hutton
We are calling on the Government to move towards introducing legislation so that UK companies and their suppliers cannot abuse workers where ever they operate in the world, and if they do then affected workers can seek redress in the UK. Please send this postcard to John Hutton, Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, and demand that he takes action to stop UK companies and thier suppliers behaving irresponsibly towards their workers.

To: Dear Secretary of State I am writing to bring to your attention the recent War on Want report Fashion Victims highlighting the abuse of Bangladeshi garment workers making clothes for well known UK high st retailers Tesco, Asda and Primark. In November the Government passed the new Companies Act (2006) which will require company directors among other matters to take into account of the interests of employees, the need to promote their relationship with suppliers and the desirability to maintain high standards of business conduct which we welcome. Unfortunately there still remains a huge gap in the regulation of companies which allows UK companies and their suppliers to abuse workers overseas without these people being able to seek redress in the UK. As this report demonstrates we need the Government to take action to prevent the irresponsible behavior of UK companies and their suppliers where ever they are operating. We call on you to support calls for legislation that will stop UK companies and their suppliers abusing workers overseas and let them seek redress in the UK Yours faithfully |
