Take Action! Email John Hutton
We are calling on the Government to move towards introducing legislation so that UK companies and their suppliers cannot abuse workers wherever they operate in the world, and if they do then affected workers can seek redress in the UK. Please send this postcard to John Hutton, Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, and demand that he takes action to stop UK companies and their suppliers behaving irresponsibly towards their workers.

To: Dear Secretary of State I am writing to bring to your attention the exploitation of workers supplying UK supermarkets and high street retailers. There have a been a number of scandals, highlighted by War on Want, involving garment workers and flower workers supplying the UK high street in recent years. While UK retailers have signed up to an ethical code of practice to promote the fair treatment of workers, our reports show that exploitation is continuing. We believe the UK government needs to play a more active role in ensuring that these workers are paid a living wage and that their rights are respected. Unfortunately there still remains a huge gap in the regulation of companies, which allows UK companies and their suppliers to abuse workers overseas without these people being able to seek redress in the UK. As recent scandals demonstrate, we need the Government to take action to prevent the irresponsible behaviour of UK companies and their suppliers wherever they are operating. We call on you to support calls for legislation that will stop UK companies and their suppliers abusing workers overseas and let them seek redress in the UK Yours faithfully |
