It will help put pressure on cruise companies like Disney to comply with internationally agreed standards. Dear First Choice

I have just joined the Sweatships Campaign, run by War on Want and the ITF, which draws attention to some appalling working conditions on board cruise ships.

We are particularly concerned about reports from some ships that:

If workers try to form unions, they are threatened with instant dismissal.
Crewing agents illegally charge workers fees to get jobs. Many people from poor countries have to take out a loan just to get a job.
Some cruise workers get paid as little as £29 a month.
Gender, nationality and skin colour determine who gets which jobs.

We would like you to put pressure on Disney and other cruise operators you deal with to ensure they meet international standards on workers rights and unconditionally allow union organisation on board their vessels. We would be grateful if you could keep War on Want up to date with any responses.
