Helicopters over Colombia war on want
To:
Lord Triesman
Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office:

Dear Lord Triesman

I am very concerned to learn that the UK government is giving military assistance to the Colombian armed forces. According to human rights organisations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, and the Colombian trade union movement, paramilitary death squads linked to the Colombian armed forces were responsible for the vast majority of the 184 assassinations of Colombian trade unionists last year.

In addition, I find the lack of transparency in the British military assistance programme to Colombia extremely worrying and urge the government to tell tax-payers exactly where their money has gone and what it has been spent on in this conflict-ridden country.

I urge you to tell the Colombian government that no further military assistance will be forthcoming from the UK until the killing of trade unionists stops and the links between the Colombian security forces and the paramilitary death squads are severed.
