  • High street companies accused of complicity in Israeli war crimes  High street names such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Connex and Caterpillar are implicated in Israel’s war crimes against the Palestinian people, according to a new report on corporate complicity in the Occupation of Palestine from campaigns group War on Want.
  • Caterpillar: Campaigners tell Church Commissioners ‘Divest Now’  Campaigners are renewing their call on the Church of England to divest from Caterpillar at tomorrow’s meeting of the Church Commissioners’ Assets Committee, which is charged with deciding the issue.
  • Caterpillar: Campaigners tell Church Commissioners ‘Divest Now’  19 representatives of Christian, Jewish, human rights and development organisations wrote to the Church of England Commissioners today asking them to support the General Synod’s decision to disinvest from Caterpillar last month. The letter comes ahead of the Commission’s Assets Committee meeting on 4 May, which has the power to make a final decision on divestment.
  • Roger Waters moves concert to peace village  War on Want welcomes the decision of Pink Floyd star Roger Waters to move his concert to an Israeli “peace village”. The new venue is Neve Shalom/Wahat al Salam, a community dedicated to the peaceful co-existence of different faiths and races.

  • Campaigners welcome Church divestment vote on Caterpillar  Campaigners today welcomed the Church of England’s overwhelming vote in favour of divesting its £2.2 million shares from bulldozer manufacturer Caterpillar. The vote, supported by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, sends a clear message to Caterpillar that profiting from human rights violations is not compatible with socially responsible business practice.
  • Jewish and Palestinian organisations defy EU secrecy  European organisations today defied the refusal of EU Ministers to publish a report complied by their own diplomats regarding Israeli violations of international law with regard to East Jerusalem. Over 30 Jewish, Palestinian, peace and anti-poverty groups from around Europe will publish the suppressed Report on their websites.
  • Church of England fails to rise to Caterpillar challenge  Anti-poverty campaign group War on Want today expressed shock and disappointment at the Church of England’s continuing refusal to withdraw its £2.2 million investment from the construction firm Caterpillar.
  • Lawyers challenge EU and UK over inaction on Palestine  Lawyers acting for campaigns group War on Want will today (Monday 18 July) send letters to President José Manuel Barroso of the European Commission and UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw challenging them to provide evidence of any action they have taken to curtail human rights abuses against Palestinians living under Israeli military occupation.
  • Synod urged to follow ACC steer on Palestine, Caterpillar  The Church of England should follow the recommendation of the Anglican Consultative Council and vote to divest from companies supporting Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine during its General Synod this weekend, campaigners will say at a fringe meeting at York University on Friday (8 July).
  • Methodist Conference urged to follow Anglican lead on Palestine  The Methodist Church should follow the example of the Anglican Consultative Council and vote to divest from companies supporting Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine, according to a motion to be debated by its 2005 Conference in Torquay this week.
  • Church of England decides against Caterpillar boycott  Campaigners today expressed disappointment at the decision by the Church of England’s Ethical Investment Advisory Group not to withdraw its investment in bulldozer manufacturers Caterpillar.
  • Church of England debates withdrawal of Caterpillar investments  Anti-poverty campaign group War on Want welcomes the Church of England’s meeting today (16 May) to consider divestment from the construction firm Caterpillar. The Church’s Ethical Investment Advisory Group will be examining whether the £197,000 of shares currently held in Caterpillar are consistent with the Church’s ethical investment policy, which prohibits investment in arms companies or companies making ‘weapons platforms’ such as naval vessels or tanks.

  • The writing’s on the wall for former Foreign Secretary  Robin Cook MP, former Foreign Secretary, will sign an 8x24 foot mock up of Israel’s dividing wall, on the day the International Court of Justice rules on its legality.
  • Celebs, MPs sign protest wall before ICJ ruling  Glenda Jackson MP, Ken Livingstone and over 30 other public figures have signed a replica of Israel’s dividing wall – slamming the construction of the barrier that has had a devastating effect on the lives of millions of Palestinians.
  • Roger Waters joins the War on Want  Roger Waters, former member of Pink Floyd, is to give his backing to a major War on Want campaign.
  • Israeli forces release project partners  20 May 2003  Israeli Defence Forces yesterday released three men that were detained following a raid on a War on Want project partner’s offices in Palestine earlier this month.
  • A just peace for Palestine  Last October War on Want launched a medical appeal for Palestine. In late January Nick Dearden accompanied two Members of Parliament Richard Burden and Michael Connarty to Palestine to witness poverty levels and examine possibilities for a solution.
