Letter to Disney

Use this model letter to Disney CEO Michael Eisner to demand a fair deal for workers.

Your efforts really could make a difference.

Mr Michael Eisner
Chief Executive Officer
Walt Disney Company
500 South Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521

Dear Mr Eisner,

I have just joined the Sweatships Campaign, run by War on Want and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF), which draws attention to some appalling working conditions on board cruise ships, including your own. We are particularly concerned about reports from some ships that:
  • If workers try to form unions, they are threatened with dismissal. Crewing agents illegally charge workers fees to get jobs. Many people from poor countries have to take out a loan just to get a job.
  • Some cruise workers get paid as little as £29 a month because they are forced to rely on tips.
  • Gender, nationality and skin colour determine who gets which jobs.

When we take a holiday, we are anxious that others should not be exploited to provide for our enjoyment. We would therefore like to ensure you meet international standards on workers rights, unconditionally allow union organisation on board your vessels and stop using agents that charge developing country workers illicit fees to get the job.

I would be grateful if you could keep War on Want up to date with any responses. For more information contact War on Want at 37-39 Great Guildford Street, London SE1 0ES or .

Yours sincerely,
